IMDb for Voice Actors

Why You Should Have One and How It Actually Works

An IMDb page:

  • Positions you as a professional

  • Makes you searchable by studios

  • Creates a public credit history

  • Helps separate you from hobbyists

  • Grows with you into paid work

If you're doing mods, indie games, or Verified Creations, it builds legitimacy.

You don’t need to be “famous” to belong there.

Free Account vs IMDbPro

Free IMDb Account

  • You can create an account.

  • You can submit credit requests.

  • You cannot directly manage your page, add a description or image.

  • You cannot control contact info.

IMDbPro (Paid)

  • You can create and manage your page.

  • You can upload headshots and demos.

  • You can edit bio info.

  • You can monitor industry contacts.

Some actors use the 30-day IMDbPro free trial to:

  • Create their stage name page

  • Clean up credits (asking previous a producer/director to credit your new page)

  • Add headshots (which will disappear if you do not renew)

  • Lock everything in

  • Then cancel.

That’s common and completely fine. The additional benefit is that if you wish to re-activate your Pro account down the line, your savings, photos, etc. will be there for you. Personally, I like having the Pro account, but it’s entirely up to you.

Even after you cancel, your credits remain.

Two Main Ways to Get Credited:

Option A: The Project Adds You

IMDb Pro Only:
If a creator submits the project to IMDb, they can add cast directly.

Important: Always provide

  • The exact name on your IMDb page

  • The correct suffix (e.g., George Jones (XXIV))

  • A direct link to your IMDb page

If you don’t, mistakes will happen.

IMDb auto-generates suffixes for common names.
If you’re George Jones and there are 23 others, you may be:

George Jones (XXIV)

If you just say “George Jones,” you may get credited under the wrong person.

We strongly recommend sending creators a direct link to your IMDb page to prevent errors.

Option B: You Request the Credit

If the project is already listed:

  1. Log into IMDb

  2. Go to your page

  3. Click “Edit Page”

  4. Add credit under the correct project

  5. Submit

IMDb will verify the submission.

You may need:

  • A release link

  • A screenshot of credits

  • Confirmation from the project creator

Approval can take a few days.

Stage Name Warning (Very Important)

If you use a stage name and:

  • The project submits you

  • You do not already have an IMDb page

IMDb will automatically generate one.

To claim it later, IMDb will require:

  • Identity verification

  • Matching documentation

If your stage name does not match your legal ID, this will get complicated.

Best practice:

  • Create your IMDb account first

  • Then give creators your direct page link

  • Or request the credit yourself once the project page is created

When to Add a Credit

Only after:

  • The projects says you can (usually at least after you’ve turned in your files)

  • The project is publicly released

  • Any NDA restrictions are lifted

  • The creator confirms it’s approved

Never list unreleased work under NDA.
